Home Again

As I close my weary eyes,
My imagination roars.
Dreams forcefully splash on me,
Erode my flesh,
And animate my senses,
Until I melt with the elements.
Now I am nothing but a soul,
Ascending toward the sky,
Craving to be one with the clouds.

After wading through sunshine,
And rowing through rain,
My destination is in sight.
I penetrate the horizon,
And dive into a cordial pond of air.
I am home again.
While treading its serene waters,
I am peacefully placid,
Jovial and free.
Overcome with bliss.

Suddenly,
Thunder cackles.
The air turns somber.
I slowly condense,
And effuse downward,
Accelerating like an arrow,
Piercing the sky’s layers.
Looking down, I am struck by déjà vu.
I familiar sight greets me as I splatter upon my face.

Reunited with my body,
My mind begins to breathe again,
And I am filled with jubilance.

But though I am awake I cannot help but so tired,
As if I hadn't slept at all.
